West Allotment Celtic is a semi professional club with two mens’ senior teams competing in the Northern League and the Northern Alliance League.
The club is currently based at Whitley Park, a home they share with Northumberland FA and Newcastle United Reserves.
Founded in 1928, Allotment is one of the very few remaining pit clubs in the area – a testament to the hard work and dedication of the volunteers that have kept the club going for 85 years when other clubs have faltered.
The club has certainly enjoyed it’s fair share of success, joining the Northern Alliance in 1983 and winning the title 8 times before leaving the league in 2004. That year saw the club step up into the Northern League Second Division which they won at the first time of asking gaining promotion to the First Division. The club remained their until 2011 when they were relegated after a particularly disappointing and turbulent campaign.
Not one to stay down, Allotment regrouped and have enjoyed a few successful seasons in Division Two culminating in winning the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup in 2013 – the club’s first trophy for eight years.
2013/2014 is an exciting time for the club, as the first team set their sights on a return to the First Division and a newly formed development side starts life at West Allotment Celtic as a result of a partnership with Whitley Bay Boys Club.
The future is certainly bright at West Allotment Celtic and we’d love you to join in our journey.
